Types of Therapy Used at Park Royal
At Park Royal our inpatient treatment programs uses multi-disciplinary teams made up of psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, primary care physicians, physical therapists, and around-the-clock nurses who work together to provide the best treatment possible. Every patient admitted to Park Royal will receive a complete evaluation from all treatment teams so that an individualized treatment plan can be created. We use an approach to substance abuse treatment that combines therapeutic methods, medication management, and experiential programming. If your assessment determines that you need detox to rid your body of any substances, this will be your first step before joining the rehab program.
Our fully monitored detoxification program is used to help individuals who are physically dependent upon a substance gradually withdrawal. In this program you will be under constant supervision in order to make sure all toxins are safely removed from your body and any withdrawal symptoms are well-controlled. Once detox has been completed, you will remain in the rehab program to address further psychological aspects of addiction until you are ready to step down to outpatient treatment.
Medications may be prescribed during the detox process to control the unpleasantness of withdrawal symptoms. Medication use is usually decreased once individuals develop more adaptive coping mechanisms. Others may use medications long-term to manage co-occurring disorders. The usage of medication in your rehab will be up to you and your treatment team.
In addition to detoxification and medication we offer other therapeutic techniques including the following:
Group therapy: is the primary focus of treatment for all of the programs at Park Royal. Group sessions are important because they allow you the opportunity to connect with other individuals who are struggling with addiction. The support of your peers helps you work through the recovery process and gain other points of view. We offer a number of daily groups which are either process-based or psycho-educational. Our groups may include topics such as communication skills, stress management, grief and loss, or substance abuse issues.
Individual therapy: Individual sessions are provided to give patients personal time with a therapist without additional group members. These one-on-one sessions are dedicated to specific patient needs and allows them to discuss any concerns that they have that may be more effectively resolved in a non-group setting.
Family therapy: Family sessions are held to provide focused attention to specific problems that substance abuse may have created in the family dynamic. Over the course of your addiction, your relationships with your family may have become strained. We want to help you mend those relationships so you can gain back the love and support you need to continue to be successful once you are ready to leave inpatient rehab. Family sessions will allow everyone the ability to share their struggles about the substance abuse and learn how to move on from there.
In addition to our established therapeutic modalities, we provide several experiential opportunities to further your recovery. These include:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Structured activities
- Leisure time
- A.A. and N.A.
Continuing Care – What Comes Next?
When you have completed your inpatient care at Park Royal and are ready to move on to the next section of your treatment, we will still be here to help transition you to your next program. We believe in providing quality continuity of care even after you’ve finished your stay with us. Some individuals may be ready to return back to their community. If you’ve decided to return home after leaving us, we will help put in place an outpatient therapy program so you will continue to have the support of a therapist should needs arise. If you feel you need more support, we also offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Our Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for individuals who have completed inpatient treatment, but still require more time to work on their recovery. This program provides structured care without 24-hour supervision. Throughout your participation in IOP, you will be involved in group sessions, individual therapy, and educational programs. Focus will be placed on improving mood, socialization skills, support systems, and relationships. This program provides therapeutic activities for three hours each day in addition to individualized treatment regimens.
