Treatment for Depression

Treatment for Depression at Park Royal

While everyone experiences sadness when a tragic event happens, most people are able to grieve their loss and move on with their lives. Depression is greater than just a transient sadness, it’s a very common, very real, but also very treatable mental illness that can affect nearly every part of your life. The stigma of mental illness still rages in many communities which can lead individuals who are anguishing greatly to suffer in silence rather than expose themselves as “weak.” This is especially unfortunate because with the right combination of medication management and therapies at high-quality treatment centers and hospitals, most people struggling with depression can – and do – get better.

While some believe depression to be a “made up” disease, the reality is that depressive disorders are just as real as heart disease or diabetes. MRI images of the brain of individuals who struggle with depression clearly showcase a difference in individuals who are depressed and those who are not. Depression also runs in families, which suggests that there is a genetic component to the development of depressive disorders.

If you’re struggling with depression, you may feel lost inside, like you’re empty and worthless. You may find that you struggle at work, unable to meet deadlines because you’ve lost your focus and concentration. Some days, you may find the idea of getting out of bed and facing the world to be too much. You may even begin to consider taking your own life as a means to escape the emotional pain you feel. Thankfully, with effective treatment at center or hospital that specializes in depression, you can find peace and wellness once more.

Major depressive disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States. Each year in the United States, nearly 7% of adults experience this condition. While the disease may make you feel as though you’re alone in your struggles, let the wonderful staff at Park Royal Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida help you to see the light in the darkness, learn to cope with your depression, and face the day with joy rather than despondency. We’re ready to lend a guiding hand as you begin to face depression at our treatment center and the effects it has had on your life.

Treatment Options

Treatment Options for Depression at Our Hospital in Fort Myers, FL

When you come to our Fort Myers treatment center for depression, we’ll be certain to perform a complete physical and psychological evaluation to allow us to best fit your treatment plan to your needs. You’ll work side-by-side with our amazing staff to make certain you’re receiving the depression treatment at our center you need to get better. At Park Royal Hospital, we’ve learned that the best treatment for depression is a combination of medication management and therapeutic techniques.

You may be prescribed medications such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety agents in order to help you learn to cope with your symptoms while at our depression treatment center. Antidepressants often take several weeks for you to notice results, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel differently right away. If you’re already on medications when you enroll for depression treatment at Park Royal Hospital, we may adjust the dosage or change the type of medication in order to ensure they’re properly working. In addition to medication management, we also offer a wide variety of therapeutic techniques at our depression treatment center to help you learn the skills needed to feel hope again.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the modern-day shock therapy and is used for those individuals who have chronic, treatment-resistant depression. Individuals at our depression treatment center who have been on a number of different antidepressants or mood stabilizers which have been ultimately unsuccessful in managing the depression may opt to use ECT. ECT is often started during their inpatient stay at Park Royal Hospital, with the last few sessions completed on an outpatient basis.

Individual therapy is provided for you during your time at our treatment center to work through your depression and the issues you’ve been struggling with. You’ll work one-on-one with a therapist to discuss the ways depression has impacted your life and how best to prevent relapses.

Group therapy is our main form of therapy at Park Royal Hospital as we’ve discovered that the very best way for you to work through your depression is by connecting with others struggling with similar issues. We offer process-based and psycho-educational groups to best allow you to work through your challenges and learn more about your illness, relapse prevention, and coping skills while at our depression treatment center.

We know that you’re a part of a larger unit and aim to include your family in your recovery from depression. We offer family therapy sessions at our depression treatment center in order to best allow your loved ones the opportunity to learn more about depression, coping skills, and necessary recovery tools. We’ll also provide your family with connects to available community resources so they can continue their healing.

In addition to our standard treatments at Park Royal Hospital, we also offer a number of experiential treatments at our depression hospital that are aimed at treating the whole person. These include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Leisure
  • Occupational therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • Activities
  • A.A. and N.A.
