Adolescent Inpatient Treatment Program in Fort Myers

At Park Royal Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida, we offer comprehensive inpatient programming for adolescents ages 13-17 who are suffering from mental health disorders.

Who We Treat

Our team recognizes that adolescents respond to treatment differently than adults do and that they need care that takes into account their stage of development and the way they process the world around them.

In our adolescent inpatient program, we provide tailored care for kids who are struggling with mental health concerns, such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychosis
  • Personality disorders
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

Inpatient Care at Our Fort Myers Hospital

Our adolescent inpatient mental health program is a structured, intensive care option for kids who are suffering from acute concerns that cannot be successfully treated in an outpatient setting. Our goal with our adolescent inpatient program is to provide a safe and supportive environment where kids can receive round-the-clock care and learn how to manage the symptoms they are experiencing.

Inpatient programs are designed to be short-term in nature, helping patients stabilize and move to a lower level of care. Patients typically stay in our adolescent inpatient program for five to seven days, but the actual amount of time they spend with us will vary based on their personal needs and the progress they make.

One important part of inpatient programming is the focus that is placed on creating structured daily routines. By following a steady schedule, adolescents know what to expect each day, which can help add a sense of comfort while they are in an unfamiliar environment.

We take safety very seriously, and our hospital is designed to protect the physical safety of the patients in our adolescent inpatient program. We have procedures in place so that we can monitor behaviors and provide crisis intervention when necessary. Our team is trained to handle challenging situations with compassion, ensuring that every adolescent feels safe and supported while they are in our care.

The staff that runs our adolescent inpatient program in Fort Myers also places an emphasis on teaching family members how to help their child. We work to equip them with the tools they need to offer support while their child is in our care and after they return home.

Features of Our Adolescent Inpatient Program

In the adolescent inpatient program at our Fort Myers, Florida, hospital, we take special care to develop personalized treatment plans that take into account the specific needs of each adolescent. These plans can include a variety of therapies and services, such as:

  • Medication management services: There may be times when medication is beneficial in easing an adolescent’s symptoms and helping them become stable. Any decisions involving prescribing medication are always made after a thorough consultation with a psychiatrist and only if the child’s parents or guardians approve. If an adolescent patient does take medication, they meet with a psychiatrist daily, and registered nurses help administer the medication and monitor its effects.
  • Basic medical care: Basic medical care is offered for teens in our adolescent inpatient program in Fort Myers, Florida. However, we are only able to provide nonacute medical interventions. If an adolescent has a more serious medical concern, we will arrange for appropriate care at another hospital.
  • Group therapy: Group therapy is the main method of care used in our adolescent inpatient program. Therapists and social workers lead group therapy sessions, which can include process groups, psychoeducational groups, and activity groups. Group sessions are a great place for adolescents to receive support not only from professionals but also from other adolescent patients who may be struggling with similar challenges. Many topics are discussed during these sessions, including coping skills, triggers, stressors, crisis safety plans, and mindfulness.
  • Individual therapy: Individual therapy is offered in our adolescent inpatient program on an as-needed or as-requested basis. In these sessions, patients meet one-on-one with a therapist or social worker to discuss things they may not feel comfortable talking about in a group setting. It can also be a time when the patient can celebrate successes or process setbacks.
  • Family therapy: Family therapy sessions are provided by therapists or case managers. These sessions take place once before the patient is discharged from our adolescent inpatient program.
  • Experiential therapy: Experiential therapy is a type of service that gives adolescents an opportunity to work through concerns outside of talk therapy. We provide pet therapy, art therapy, yoga classes, and time for meditation.

We also offer medical detox services for teens in our adolescent inpatient program when needed. While in detox, adolescents are closely monitored to ensure their safety and comfort as they go through withdrawal from drugs or alcohol. These services are delivered by clinical providers, including registered nurses.

To make sure that patients in our adolescent inpatient program are receiving the highest level of clinical care, we use a number of different evidence-based modalities during therapy sessions. These can include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing.

Start the Admissions Process

At our Fort Myers, Florida, hospital, we understand that deciding to put your child in an inpatient program can be intimidating and, oftentimes, scary. For this reason, we have created a smooth and seamless admissions process so that both you and your child can feel confident in the decision you’re making to have them enter our adolescent inpatient program.

Before starting the program, adolescents meet with a member of our team to complete a thorough assessment, which includes gathering information about their current symptoms, medical history, social interactions, and educational performance and whether they have received any mental healthcare services in the past. We carefully review the results of this assessment so that we can make an appropriate recommendation for care. Parents and guardians are fully involved throughout this entire process.

If it is decided that our adolescent inpatient program is right for your child, we will work closely with you as we create their care plan and walk you through what you can expect during their stay with us.
