As part of the comprehensive care that we have long been dedicated to delivering, Park Royal Behavioral Health Services is proud to offer a partial hospitalization program for male and female adults, aged 18 and older.
Learn About Partial Hospitalization
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) is designed for individuals who need a higher level of care than what is typically provided in traditional outpatient services, yet who do not require the intensity of inpatient services, or for individuals who are stepping down from an inpatient level of care.
Disorders Treated at PHP
As a highly structured outpatient service, the PHP at Park Royal provides thorough programming for individuals who are battling mental health conditions and/or addictions to substances. More specifically, the most commonly treated disorders that we treat in the partial hospitalization program here at Park Royal include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Depressive disorders
- Other mental health conditions
- Substance use disorders
Treatment Modalities Used in PHP
Using a cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach to the care delivered, the partial hospitalization program utilizes group psychotherapy as its main treatment component. These groups are led by master’s level clinicians and registered nurses. The specific types of groups offered include peer groups, process groups, and psycho-educational groups. The topics that are covered in these various groups may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Understanding illness
- Emotional regulation
- Identifying triggers
- Family dynamics
- Boundary setting
- Healthy living skills
- Coping skills
- Conflict resolution
- Stress reduction
- Self-discovery and awareness
- Self-esteem skills
- Stages of change
- Relapse prevention
- Understanding the road to recovery
- Time management
- Strength building
The Value of Group Therapy
At Park Royal, we believe in the value of group therapy as it allows patients to come together in a safe environment and learn from one another, while also giving and receiving support to and from one another. Additionally, group therapy serves as an optimal opportunity for people to understand that they are not alone in the struggles they face and therefore do not have to suffer through feeling isolated in the trials they experience.
In addition to the group therapy sessions, patients engaged in PHP will also participate in activity therapy each day, of which is led by certified activity therapists. Patients also have the opportunity to meet with a psychiatrist weekly who will assist them in managing their medication needs. Registered nurses are also on staff to assist with monitoring patients’ medications.
Length of Stay & Schedule While in PHP
The typical length of stay in PHP averages between two and six weeks. However, the actual amount of time that an individual spends in programming may vary depending on his or her unique needs. At Park Royal, we are dedicated to providing highly individualized treatment to each person who is entrusted into our care and therefore recognize that the length of stay that works for one person may not work as well for the next person. For this reason, our staff here at Park Royal works hard to ensure that the admissions process is a thorough and streamlined one, where all necessary information is gathered so that appropriate recommendations for length of stay can be determined. Additionally, knowing the important role that family involvement plays in an individual’s recovery, our staff attempts to have the families of our patients involved in the treatment planning process.
The program meets Mondays through Fridays from 9:00am until 3:30pm, with lunch being provided to patients each afternoon.
Learn About What Comes After Partial Hospitalization Programming
When a patient’s time in PHP has come to an end, he or she will have the opportunity to be discharged into our intensive outpatient program, if that particular programming option is deemed clinically appropriate to meet their continuing care needs. All discharge planning and any continuity of care will be appropriately arranged and provided.
